The digital upskilling team have been working tirelessly on aiding the restoration and recovery phase of the COVID-19 pandemic to scope essential support and services that we in primary care can offer to our patients.
Take a look at the popularity of the animations we created to update patients how to look after themselves if they have diabetes or a high blood pressure, along with animations about social prescribing, smoking cessation and carers – when they were loaded on general practices’ public Facebook pages across Staffordshire.
All general practice centres now have an ‘open door’ policy and while this is often misleading as we are still asking patients to avoid turning up without prior arrangement, so it does mean that we need to reinstate ‘normal service’ using our digital front of house. Staffordshire, in the past few years has been at the forefront of incorporating social media presence as part of a widespread digital transformation within Primary Care settings eg Facebook/instagram or twitter. Furthermore, social media posts have the potential of reaching many patients and take very little time or effort to schedule proving to be an important factor in promoting improved self care as part of the restoration phase.
The Northern Staffordshire Clinical Commissioning Groups’ Technology Enabled Care Services (TECS) steering group commissioned a number of COVID related animations designed by clinicians to offer support and advice to patients when necessary, these proved to be well received by both clinician, patient and social care settings. In addition to their usefulness via social media platforms, animations proved to be easy to send out to patients via links when deemed necessary to support self-care and better lifestyle choices.
Please see the data below showing social media activity following posts of the above animations which clearly shows the extensive reach that technology enabled care can achieve.
